Kirchenkarbahn I, Gondola lift station in Sölden, Austria.
Kirchenkarbahn I is a ten-passenger gondola that carries people from the valley at about 2175 meters elevation to the mountain at about 2629 meters. The route spans roughly 1.5 kilometers and features 43 heated cabins designed to accommodate ten people each.
The gondola was built in 2015 by Doppelmayr/Garaventa and was the first system of its kind worldwide to feature ten-passenger cabins. The project marked a technical milestone in modern cable car development.
The base station is part of the Top Mountain Crosspoint complex, where a motorcycle museum and restaurant sit alongside the lift. Visitors can experience multiple attractions in one location when heading up the mountain.
The ride allows visitors to gain elevation quickly and take in the surrounding mountain landscape as they ascend. Since the cabins are heated, the journey remains comfortable even in cold weather.
The system uses a hydraulically adjustable tension system at the base station that automatically adapts to changing conditions. This technology helps keep operations running smoothly and safely across varying weather.
