Scheiblehnkogel, Mountain summit in Stubai Alps, Austria and Italy
Scheiblehnkogel is a summit in the Stubai Alps straddling the border between Austria and Italy, rising to 3055 meters (10,026 feet). Its distinctive double-peak form features a steep ravine separating the main summit from the adjacent Peillöcherspitze.
Ludwig Purtscheller from Innsbruck made the first documented ascent in 1882, establishing the mountain's place in Alpine climbing history. This early climb marked the beginning of recognized routes that mountaineers would develop.
The mountain stands at the intersection of Austrian and Italian territories, representing the physical connection between Tyrolean and South Tyrolean communities.
Climbers can approach from the north through Sölden and the Siegerlandhütte, or from the south via the Timmel Valley. Both routes require good fitness and experience navigating high-altitude terrain.
Two glaciers flank the western and northern sides of the mountain, significantly affecting climbing conditions. The Western and Eastern Scheiblehnferner are essential features that shape the climbing experience.
