Playa de San Agustín
Playa de San Agustín is a sand beach on the south coast of Gran Canaria with fine, soft sand and calm waters suitable for swimming and wading. The beach extends about 600 meters and offers loungers, umbrellas, showers, and facilities, with a waterfront promenade lined with restaurants, cafes, and shops.
The beach is named after Saint Augustine and belongs to the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, whose development became closely linked to tourism on Gran Canaria. The area developed during the second half of the 20th century as part of the southern coast's expansion into a major vacation destination.
The beach takes its name from Saint Augustine and is valued by locals and visitors as a place where the pace of life slows down noticeably. People here embrace simple pleasures like watching sunsets, enjoying fresh seafood at waterfront cafes, and taking unhurried strolls along the shore as part of their daily rhythm.
The beach is easily reached by car via the main road south and offers free parking nearby. Arriving early provides better spot selection, and the waterfront cafes and restaurants along the promenade are convenient for drinks and meals throughout the day.
Nearby stands the Gloria Palace Spa, a thalasso center using seawater treatments that gives this beach area a wellness dimension often overlooked by casual visitors. This feature sets it apart from typical swimming beaches in the region.
