Chandipur Sea Beach

Chandipur Sea Beach is a long sandy shore on India's eastern coast in Odisha known for its dramatic tidal shifts. Twice daily at low tide, the sea recedes up to 5 kilometers, exposing a wide expanse of muddy seabed that visitors can explore on foot.

The beach has long been a quiet fishing settlement that sustained local communities for generations along the coast. In recent times, the area gained additional significance when the Indian military established a missile testing facility for weapons like the Agni and Prithvi series in a protected section.

The beach takes its name from the local village and is known in the region by the nickname Hide and Seek Beach. Visitors can observe fishermen working along the shore and families enjoying simple coastal traditions tied to the rhythm of daily tides.

Visit between November and March when the weather is dry and cool for the most comfortable experience. Bring water, sun protection, and cash while respecting the beach ban on plastic bags and swimming only in supervised areas.

The beach is home to hundreds of ghost red crabs that scurry quickly across the sand, giving the place a wild and untamed feel. These reddish crustaceans are especially visible when walking the shoreline and add to the distinctive character of the spot.
