Border crossing Słubice / Frankfurt on the Oder, Border crossing in Słubice, Poland

The Poste frontalier Słubice / Frankfurt (Oder) is a road and pedestrian bridge over the Oder River connecting Poland and Germany. It runs between the Polish town of Słubice and the German town of Frankfurt (Oder), with small control stations visible on each side.

A first bridge at this location was built around 1300, when Frankfurt (Oder) served as a trading hub along the river. After the Second World War, the border shifted west, the city was split, and Słubice emerged as a separate Polish town.

The bridge, known in Polish as Most Graniczny and in German as Stadtbrücke, is part of everyday life for residents on both sides of the Oder. Shops along the crossing cater to both Polish and German customers, and signs appear in two languages throughout the area.

Since October 2023, border checks have been reintroduced on both sides of the crossing, so extra time should be allowed, especially during morning and early evening rush hours. Carrying a valid passport or national identity card is required when crossing.

When Poland joined the Schengen area in 2007, border controls on this bridge were lifted and the crossing operated without checks for many years. That is no longer the case: since 2023 the bridge is once again a formal checkpoint, showing how much the political situation in Europe has shifted.
