Słubice, Border city in western Poland
Słubice is a town on the eastern bank of the Oder River, positioned directly across from Frankfurt an der Oder in Germany. The town spreads along the river valley, which forms the international border between the two countries.
The original settlement of Zliwitz grew as part of Frankfurt's territory and was documented in German records from the 13th century onward. After World War II, the area east of the Oder was assigned to Poland and the town adopted its present name.
The city established the first Wikipedia monument at Frankfurt Square, displaying four figures carrying a sphere to recognize online encyclopedia contributors.
The town has several crossing points to reach Germany across the Oder, accessible through main highways and expressways. Visitors should keep in mind that border crossings experience varying levels of traffic depending on the time of day, and entry requirements may differ.
The Beata Lysiak Stadium from 1927 mirrors the shape of an ancient amphitheater and ranks among the oldest sports facilities in Central Europe. Its curved design makes the building a notable exception among early stadium construction in the region.
