The Quays, Shopping centre in Salford, Great Britain
Les quais is a shopping centre on the waterfront in Salford, near Manchester, with over ninety stores across two floors covering fashion, shoes, jewellery, and beauty. It also has a seven-screen cinema, a food hall called Kargo MKT with around twenty food stalls, a small brewery, and a gin distillery.
The centre was previously known as Lowry Outlet and was renamed Quayside MediaCityUK in 2020 before becoming Les quais. It was built on a former dockland site, part of a wider transformation of Salford Quays from an industrial port into a modern leisure and retail district.
Les quais sits within MediaCityUK, a district known for its media companies and creative businesses. This mix of work and leisure by the water gives the place a rhythm that feels different from an ordinary shopping centre.
The centre is easy to reach by tram and bus, with stops very close by, so a car is not needed. Those arriving by car will find a large car park on site, but parking fees apply so it is worth planning ahead.
The centre was once named after L.S. Lowry, the British painter famous for his scenes of industrial life in northern England, who lived and worked in this area. The Lowry arts centre nearby still bears his name and can be reached on foot from the shopping centre.
