Promenade Jean Turc, Riverside path in Angers, France
Promenade Jean Turc is a riverside path along the Maine River in Angers, linking the city center to the water's edge. The path features terraces, steps, a lit fountain with nine water jets, and a play area for children.
The path was created as part of the city project Cœur de Maine, which turned a former riverside highway into a city boulevard with a lower speed limit. After about a year of construction, the promenade opened and gave people a new way to reach the river from the center.
The path is easy to walk or cycle and passes several viewpoints looking toward the river and the castle. Families with children should look for the play area in the middle section, which has two routes suited to different age groups.
Hidden among the trees along the path are 32 bird nests and 5 bat boxes, placed there to give wildlife a home in the middle of the city. The fountain along the route is lit with LED lights at night, creating colored effects that change the feel of an evening walk.
