The pedestrian of Paris, Bookshop in the 4th arrondissement, Paris, France
Le Piéton de Paris is a small bookshop in the 4th arrondissement of Paris, on the Rue de l'Hôtel-de-Ville, close to the Seine. The shop covers around 35 square meters (380 sq ft) and is stocked with books, magazines, and postcards all centered on Paris.
The bookshop opened in March 2018, founded by Frédérique Augier, who wanted to turn her passion for Paris into a neighborhood store. From the start, the choice of location near the Seine and the literary name signaled the direction she had in mind.
Le Piéton de Paris takes its name from a novel by Léon-Paul Fargue, a writer who explored the city on foot. The selection of books reflects that same spirit, with comics, photo books, and poetry all centered on Paris.
The bookshop is on the Rue de l'Hôtel-de-Ville and opens Tuesday through Saturday. The space is small, so it is worth stopping by without a rush and taking time to browse at your own pace.
Frédérique Augier chose the bookshop's name directly from a novel by Léon-Paul Farge that celebrates the art of wandering through Paris. That connection shows in how the books are selected: not by bestseller lists, but by the founder's personal interest in the city.
