The Maison des Palmiers is a botanical garden set inside Źródliska Park in Łódź, made up of three glass pavilions that each recreate a different climate: Mediterranean, tropical, and desert. The collection includes banana plants, araucarias, bamboo, fig trees, orchids, bromeliads, ferns, and succulents growing together under one roof.
The site dates to the 19th century, when factory owners in Łódź set up glasshouses to grow tropical plants as a sign of their wealth and curiosity about nature. The building itself originally served as a tea house before it was gradually transformed into the botanical garden it is today, with a full renovation completed in 2003.
The Maison des Palmiers sits inside Źródliska Park, near the Film Museum, and draws families and school groups who come for the learning programs about tropical ecosystems. Inside, a small cafe on the ground floor lets visitors look out through large windows onto the plants while having a coffee or a snack.
The garden is open year-round, but hours vary by season and it closes on certain public holidays and during maintenance periods in spring and autumn. It sits a short walk east of the Film Museum and is easy to reach by tram, with several lines stopping nearby.
Some of the palms and other plants in the collection were first planted in the 19th century, making them over 150 years old. The garden is also considered the first botanical garden in Łódź, having been established before any other similar site in the city.
