Malay Heritage Museum, Museum and recreation area in Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia

Muzium Warisan Melayu is a museum and outdoor recreation area in Serdang, Selangor, on the grounds of Universiti Putra Malaysia. Inside, displays cover traditional clothing, weapons, manuscripts, and everyday objects, while the outdoor grounds feature original wooden houses relocated from several Malaysian states.

The museum opened officially in April 2014 as part of Universiti Putra Malaysia in Serdang. It was set up to gather and protect traditional Malay objects, houses, and manuscripts that risked disappearing over time.

The outdoor area called Laman Warisan features traditional wooden houses from different regions of Malaysia that visitors can walk through and explore. Decorative woodwork and old building methods visible on these houses show how Malay families once designed their homes according to local customs.

The museum sits on a main road near the university campus and is clearly signed, so finding it on foot or by car is straightforward. On-site facilities include public toilets, free WiFi, and food stalls, making it easy to spend a few hours there without needing to leave.

One of the oldest structures on the grounds is a Bujang house from Terengganu that is nearly 200 years old and was built without a single nail. Wooden pegs hold the entire frame together, showing the skill of Malay carpenters who designed buildings meant to last for generations.
