The Nethercutt Museum is a car museum in the Sylmar neighborhood of Los Angeles, displaying over 130 restored vehicles from around the world. The collection spans from the early 20th century to more recent decades, and also includes a historic steam locomotive and a luxury rail car from 1912.
The museum was founded in the early 1970s by J.B. Nethercutt, who had spent decades collecting and restoring historic vehicles. His private passion eventually grew into a collection large enough to open to the public.
The Nethercutt Museum in Sylmar is known for its restored vehicles that look as if they just left the factory. Visitors can get close enough to notice details like leather seats, wood trim, and hand-shaped bodywork that show how much craft once went into making a car.
The museum is open Thursday through Saturday, and accessing the full collection requires a guided tour that should be booked in advance. Inside, tripods and selfie sticks are not allowed, but photography is permitted.
The grounds include a Canadian Pacific Royal Hudson steam locomotive from 1937, one of the few of its kind still around. On certain days, children can ride the historic rail car at no charge when a parent has a ticket.
