Máximo Gómez Park, Urban park in Little Havana, Miami, US
Máximo Gómez Park, also known as Domino Park, is a small public park in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami. It sits on the corner of SW 8th Street and 15th Avenue, right along the busy Calle Ocho.
The park was created in 1976 and named after Máximo Gómez, a general who fought for Cuban independence in the 19th century. Over the decades it became a daily meeting point for Cuban-American residents in Little Havana.
The park is widely known as Domino Park because of the daily games played there, usually under a shaded pavilion. The floor is decorated with tile mosaics showing domino patterns, and a large mural by artist Oscar Thomas on the back wall depicts the heads of state who gathered in Miami in 1994.
The park is open throughout the day and welcomes visitors who want to watch the domino games, though joining a table requires a club card for older players. Free parking is available behind the park, and metered street parking can be found along Calle Ocho.
Alongside the park runs the Walk of the Stars, a row of stars modeled after the Hollywood Walk of Fame that honors Latin American actors, writers, and musicians. On the last Friday of every month, the streets around the park fill with vendors selling handmade crafts by local artists.
