Marché de St Pierre la mer, Market in Saint-Pierre-la-Mer, Fleury, France
The Marché de St Pierre la mer is an open-air market in the seaside resort of Saint-Pierre-la-Mer, in the commune of Fleury, in southern France. It is made up of three distinct parts: a morning produce market on the central square, the Marché des Embruns along the seafront, and the covered Halles Lo Vilatge.
The market grew alongside the development of the seaside resort during the 20th century, when Saint-Pierre-la-Mer expanded to welcome more visitors each summer. Over time, fixed structures like the Halles Lo Vilatge were added, and the market expanded to include evening sessions and craft stalls.
The Marché de St Pierre la mer sits along the Boulevard des Embruns, facing the sea, and draws a mix of locals doing their daily shopping and visitors browsing the stalls. Many of the sellers are small producers from the area who grow or make what they sell.
The morning market opens early and closes around midday, so arriving in the first hours of the day gives access to the freshest goods. In summer, parking near the market fills up fast, so coming on foot or by bike from nearby accommodation is a good option.
The Marché des Embruns along the seafront is the only part of the market that opens in the evening, sometimes until midnight, giving it a very different feel from the morning session. A fairground operates nearby in summer until late at night, which adds a festive tone to an evening visit.
