Greenway del Lago di Como, Hiking trail in Tremezzina, Italy
The Greenway del Lago di Como is a walking trail in the Tremezzina area that links the village of Colonno to the Lido di Cadenabbia, passing through several small lakeside settlements on the western shore of Lake Como. The path runs mostly flat, following old roads and lanes just above the waterline, with historic villas, small churches, and lakeside gardens along the way.
The trail partly follows the ancient Via Regina, a road built by the Romans to connect Como with the Alpine passes, used for centuries by merchants and pilgrims. Over time, the villages and estates that line the route today grew up along this same corridor.
Locals along the route use these paths for everyday walks, stopping to chat on small bridges or outside village cafes. In Sala Comacina and Lenno, the trail passes through the kind of streets where daily life and passing visitors naturally mix.
The route is divided into five sections, so it is easy to walk only part of it and join or leave at several points along the way. Buses and boat services connect the villages, making it straightforward to return to the starting point after any section.
Villa Balbiano, which the trail passes directly by, was used as a filming location for the 2021 movie 'House of Gucci.' Walkers who look closely can recognize the facade from several scenes in the film.
