Dosan-Ri Dolmen, Dolmen in Gochang-gun, South Korea
The Dolmen de Dosan-Ri is a Bronze Age stone monument in Gochang-gun, South Korea, part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a table-type dolmen, with a large flat capstone resting on upright support stones, and stands alone on a hilltop.
The dolmen was built during Korea's Bronze Age, more than 3,000 years ago, and served as a burial site for a person of high standing. It was inscribed as part of the Gochang, Hwasun, and Ganghwa Dolmen Sites UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000.
The hilltop location requires a short walk on uneven ground, so sturdy footwear is a good idea. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable conditions for an outdoor visit.
This dolmen is the only table-type dolmen in its immediate area, setting it apart from the other dolmens found across the Gochang region. Its exposed hilltop position suggests the site was chosen deliberately to mark the territory of a specific group or leader.
