Yürüyen Köşk, History museum in Yalova, Turkey
Yürüyen Köşk is a small two-story wooden house in Yalova, Turkey, now used as a history museum. It sits next to an old oriental oak tree, with a simple porch and a sloped roof.
The house was built in 1930 in just 22 days for Atatürk, who had noticed the area while traveling between Istanbul and Bursa. It was later carefully slid on rails to protect the tree growing next to it, which gave the building its name, meaning 'walking house'.
The site is easy to walk around, with a garden path that leads past the house and the old oak tree. A restoration was carried out in 2006, and the building is in good condition and accessible on foot.
The oak tree next to the building is around 390 years old, making it roughly three times older than the house itself. It is considered a natural monument, and it was the reason the house was moved in the first place.
