Hıdırnebi Yaylası is a mountain highland in the Akçaabat district of Trabzon, in northeastern Turkey, sitting at around 1,600 feet (1,600 m) above sea level. Open grassy meadows cover most of the terrain, and a line of rocky cliffs known as the Hıdırnebi rocks rise behind the plateau.
The plateau has been used for summer grazing by local communities for generations, with herders traditionally moving their animals up to the highland as temperatures rose each year. That seasonal pattern still shapes how people use the land today.
Every July, people from nearby villages gather on this highland for a traditional festival with music, dance, and local food. Visitors can also buy fresh dairy products and handmade goods brought by locals for the occasion.
The plateau is reached from Akçaabat along a winding road, and having your own vehicle makes the trip easiest. Basic lodging and eating options exist on site, but bringing water and a warm layer is a good idea since the weather at this altitude can shift quickly.
Locals also call the area Dernek Çimeni, a name that means something close to gathering meadow, pointing directly to its long tradition as a meeting place. On overcast days, clouds can settle below the ridge, leaving visitors standing above a layer of white that covers the valleys below.
