Lake Sera Nature Park, Nature park and nature reserve in Akçaabat, Turkey
Lake Sera Nature Park is a nature park and nature reserve near Akçaabat, in Trabzon province, Turkey, centered on a natural lake in the Yıldızlı neighborhood. The area around the lake includes walking trails, picnic spots, playgrounds, and small cafes set among trees and open green spaces.
The lake formed in 1950 after heavy rains triggered a large landslide in the Derecik Valley, and the fallen rocks blocked the flow of the Sera Stream, creating a natural basin in a matter of weeks. In 2010, the area was officially declared a nature park.
Along the shore, small restaurants serve regional dishes while visitors look out over the water. Sitting here for a meal with family or friends is one of the most common ways people spend time at the lake.
The park sits about 12 km from Trabzon city center and around 8 km from Akçaabat, and is most easily reached by car since no direct public transport runs to the site. Once inside, the terrain around the lake is flat and easy to walk, with marked paths leading around the water.
The lake reached its full form in just 18 days after the landslide, which makes it one of the fastest-forming natural lakes in the region. The landslide itself was powerful enough to trigger a small local earthquake felt by people in the surrounding villages.
