The Çakıroğlu İsmail Ağa Konağı is a mansion in Hayrat built from pink sandstone that rises three floors on its southern side. The building features multiple entrances on its western and eastern sides, along with a dedicated gate for horses.
The mansion was built in 1805 and soon served as shelter during local power struggles between influential families. The Tuzcuoğlu family sought refuge there in 1817 during regional conflicts.
The mansion reflects Ottoman household traditions with distinct spaces for receiving guests, storing arms, and private family life. Each room served a specific purpose in the daily routines of its residents.
The mansion sits on a hillside with sea views and can be approached from multiple directions. Visitors can access the building from different entrances depending on which side they approach from.
Russian warships fired upon the building during World War I, leaving bullet marks embedded in its stone walls. These scars from the conflict remain visible today and tell the story of wartime hardship in this region.
