Uzungöl, Natural lake in Çaykara, Turkey
Uzungöl is a freshwater lake in the Soganli Valley that stretches for about 1000 meters at 1090 meters above sea level. Dense pine forests and mountains surround the water, creating an enclosed natural landscape.
The lake formed about five centuries ago when a landslide blocked the Haldizen River, creating this water body. This geological event shaped the current form and depth of the lake.
The name Uzungöl means 'long lake' in Turkish, reflecting the stretched shape of this natural water body in the Black Sea region. Locals and visitors alike gather along the shoreline, where pine forests frame the water and create a sense of connection to the landscape.
Spring offers the best visiting conditions when the forests turn green and the weather is mild. A bus or taxi from Trabzon, around 100 kilometers away, provides access to the lake.
The lake is home to salmon and supports numerous bird species in its waters and forests. This rich wildlife makes the shoreline a place for observation and quiet encounters with nature.
