Çaykara

Çaykara sits in a V-shaped valley along the Solaklı River, surrounded by the Pontic Mountains reaching heights of over 3300 meters.

The region became part of Ottoman control in 1461 following the conquest of the Empire of Trebizond, leading to interactions between Greek-speaking Christians and Turkish tribes.

The area maintains the Of-dialect of Pontic Greek, known as Romeyka, which continues to be spoken by older residents in many rural communities.

The municipality operates modern facilities including a local industrial site and implements continuous road improvements to enhance transportation access throughout the region.

During the Ottoman period, the educational standards in Çaykara were exceptionally high, resulting in one of the highest literacy rates across the empire.
