Stone Mosque, Erzurum, Mosque in Yakutiye district, Erzurum, Turkey

The Stone Mosque, also known as Taş Camii, is a medieval mosque in the Yakutiye district of Erzurum, Turkey. It is built from local stone with thick walls, multiple domes, and tall pillars supporting the roof.

The mosque was built in the 12th century by Emir Nasreddin Aslan and was originally known as the Atabey Mosque. It belongs to the Seljuk architectural period, making it one of the oldest places of worship in the city.

The mosque sits in the center of the Yakutiye district, close to the Yakutiye Madrasa and Erzurum Castle, making it easy to reach on foot. Outside of prayer times, visitors can explore the interior and should dress modestly.

The interior domes and pillars create good acoustics, so prayers and voices carry clearly across the whole space. The name Atabey, used in the building's original title, refers to a military governor rather than a king, which reflects the political structure of the Seljuk era.
