Babiččino údolí

Babiččino údolí is a nature reserve in the valley of the Úpa River, featuring waterways, meadows, and forests with diverse plant communities. A marked educational trail connects multiple viewpoints and showcases the area's natural variety.

The area received official protection in 1952, combining natural habitats with sites linked to Czech literature. This blend of conservation and cultural significance emerged from efforts to preserve both landscape and heritage.

The landscape inspired writer Božena Němcová to create her novel 'Babička', which shaped how people see rural life in Bohemia. The story remains deeply connected to how visitors experience this place today.

The best way to explore is on foot using the marked trail with information panels positioned throughout. Multiple entry points are available depending on where you want to start and finish your walk.

The area hosts rare butterfly species including Phengaris nausithous and Phengaris teleius that researchers regularly study. These butterflies depend on specific plants found in the meadows for their reproduction cycle.
