Vysoké Mýto

Vysoké Mýto is a town with medieval origins in the Pardubice Region, known for its large square marketplace. This plaza ranks among the largest of its type in the Czech Republic and is framed by historic buildings with arcaded galleries.

King Ottokar II founded the town in 1265 as a trading center on the route between Bohemia and Moravia. The location became an important passage point where merchants paid tolls that shaped regional commerce.

The Church of Saint Lawrence dominates the town center with its Gothic structure and houses artworks from the Baroque period. Visitors can observe the restored stained glass and elaborate altarpieces that reflect centuries of local devotion.

The town center is easy to explore since major sights cluster around the large marketplace. Plan enough time to visit the church and walk through the arcades of the surrounding buildings.

In 2022 the town received recognition as Czech Historical Town of the Year for its conservation efforts of historic and architectural monuments. This award honored the commitment to preserving medieval heritage for future generations.
