Church of Our Lady of Victories, Baroque church in Malá Strana, Czech Republic
The Church of Our Lady of Victories stands in Malá Strana, a district of Prague 1, and belongs to the baroque and classical tradition. Inside, it shows altars with carved work, marble columns, painted vaults, and gilded elements distributed in side niches and the main space.
German Lutherans originally built the church space in 1611 under the name Holy Trinity. After a military victory by Ferdinand II, the Carmelites received the building in 1624 and gave it its current name.
The Infant Jesus figure from Spain wears different garments that change with the church calendar. Visitors come to see the small statue and engage with it in a personal moment of devotion.
The church sits on Karmelitská in Prague 1 and opens from 8:30 Monday to Saturday, until 19:00 on Sundays. Visitors wanting to see the small Infant Jesus figure and the interior spaces can enter during these hours.
Below the church lies a crypt from 1666 holding coffins of Carmelite monks and their supporters from two centuries. The underground chamber shows how the community preserved its deceased across generations.
