Hrubá Skála Castle

Hrubá Skála Castle is a sandstone fortress perched on a rocky platform in the Bohemian Paradise region, with a tower offering views across the surrounding landscape. Today it houses approximately 100 hotel beds, conference facilities, a restaurant, and a wellness center that operate year-round.

The fortress was founded in the 14th century by Hynek of Valdstein and received Renaissance, Baroque, and Gothic Revival additions over subsequent centuries. These layers of architectural styles shape its appearance and structure today.

The castle displays its Gothic Revival architecture today and operates as a hotel, serving both purposes equally well. This blend of monument protection and active hospitality creates the place's character.

The castle welcomes visitors year-round since its facilities operate continuously. The access road is quite steep, so plan your arrival carefully whether arriving on foot or by vehicle.

A marked trail winds through a narrow rock gorge called Mouse Hole, linking the castle to the dramatic Dragon Rocks and Sedmihorky Spa. This walk connects the building to the wild natural landscape surrounding it.
