Hněvkovice Reservoir, reservoir in the Czech Republic
Hněvkovice Reservoir is a large water basin on the Vltava River between Hluboká nad Vltavou and Týn nad Vltavou. The lake spans several kilometers with dikes along its edges that contain the water for power generation and flood control.
The reservoir was built in the early 1900s as a hydroelectric facility and remains one of Czechia's older dam systems. Its construction permanently altered the river's flow and created this artificial water body that has shaped the region for over a century.
The best time to visit is during warmer months when the surroundings are accessible for walking and exploring the shoreline. Come prepared with sturdy shoes as pathways around the water can be uneven and somewhat remote from major facilities.
Beyond its role in power generation, the water body serves as a nesting and feeding ground for waterfowl and supports healthy fish populations. Bird watchers often spot several species of ducks and gulls attracted to the open water.
