Jaskinia Na Turoldu, Limestone cave system in Mikulov, Czech Republic.
Turold-Höhle is a limestone cave system in Mikulov extending through about 2 kilometers of corridors and halls with white walls covered in calcite crystals and coral-like deposits. The passages descend through multiple levels and lead to an underground lake.
The system was first documented in 1669, though limestone mining shaped the cave for centuries. A new section was discovered in 1951, and the cave opened to visitors in 1967.
The cave serves as a winter home for several bat species and plays an important part in the Pálava Biosphere Reserve. Visitors can observe this wildlife while walking through without disturbing the animals.
About 300 meters of passages are accessible to visitors and can be explored using stairs descending roughly 37 meters. The ground is straightforward to navigate, but sturdy shoes are recommended.
The cave walls display distinctive cauliflower-shaped formations and stone foam patterns found worldwide in only three caves. These rare structures form through special mineral processes that occur under very specific conditions.
