Town hall in Olomouc

The town hall of Olomouc stands on Horní náměstí, the city's upper square, with a tower reaching about 76 meters high. An astronomical clock adorns the northern side of the structure and serves as a distinctive feature of this historical municipal building.

The building was erected in the 15th century and became the administrative center when Olomouc was one of the most important cities in Moravia. After World War II, the astronomical clock was completely rebuilt and received a new appearance reflecting the style of that era.

The building serves as a focal point where locals and visitors gather in the surrounding cafes and square. It remains central to how the city organizes its public life and social activities today.

The tower can be climbed daily to enjoy a panoramic view over the square and surroundings from the upper point. The best times to visit are early morning or late afternoon hours, when crowds are thinner.

Inside the building there is a chapel with vaulted ceilings that preserves medieval details. Beneath the square lie old dungeons that can be explored on special tours, revealing how the city once punished people.
