Edelmann palace, Renaissance palace at Upper Square, Olomouc, Czech Republic
Edelmann Palace is a two-story Renaissance building on Olomouc's Upper Square with decorated loggias, floral ornaments, and stone reliefs adorning its facade. The walls display biblical scenes carved in detail across the windows and doors.
The palace was built between 1572 and 1586 when Vaclav Edelmann combined two older Gothic houses into one residence. The building later became the headquarters for fortress commanders.
The entrance features the coat of arms of the Edelmann family alongside Renaissance-style portraits of family members. These decorations show how important this merchant family was to Olomouc life.
The building stands at Horni namesti 5, directly across from the northern side of the Town Hall. You can easily spot it from the square and reach it from the surrounding streets.
The stone reliefs beneath the window sills tell stories from the Old and New Testament through detailed Renaissance carving. These carved scenes are remarkably detailed and show the high skill of craftsmen from that era.
