Růžový sad, Rose garden in Hradčany, Czech Republic
Růžový sad is a rose garden atop Petřín Hill with thousands of rose plants arranged in different sections. The site is enclosed by an old fortification wall and features multiple vantage points offering views across the city below.
The site was converted from military land into a garden during the 1930s following an architect's design plan for the space. This transformation created the layout that exists today with its distinct areas dedicated to rose cultivation.
The place takes its name from the roses that have thrived here for nearly a century. Visitors come to experience how sculptures are woven into the landscape, creating spaces where art and nature meet throughout the grounds.
Paved paths guide visitors through different sections, with playgrounds and seating areas positioned at viewing points throughout the space. Most areas are easy to walk around, though some elevated parts may have steeper stretches.
A sculptural group titled 'Sense and Sensibility' by a local artist sits among the rose beds and often goes unnoticed by visitors. Blue Nepeta flowers are intentionally planted alongside the roses, creating color contrasts that catch the eye in unexpected ways.
