Żwirkowisko, Aviation memorial in Těrlicko, Czech Republic
The memorial features a stone monument with pilot figures, symbolic graves, and commemorative plaques surrounded by preserved spruce trees where the aircraft crashed.
Polish pilots Franciszek Żwirko and Stanisław Wigura died at this location on September 11, 1932, when their RWD-6 aircraft lost a wing during a storm.
The site includes the House of Żwirko and Wigura, established in 1992, which contains exhibits dedicated to Polish aviation history and educational materials.
Visitors can reach the memorial by following the road signs from Cieszyn through Těrlicko, with the exact location at coordinates 49.7633°N, 18.5278°E.
The original mausoleum contained a bell funded by readers of a Polish newspaper, though it was dismantled during German occupation in 1940.
