Church of Saint Lawrence, Medieval church in Těrlicko, Czech Republic

The Church of Saint Lawrence stands on Kostelec hill above Těrlicko. The present building was commissioned in 1889 from Jonhisch of Těšín and consecrated on 16 August 1891, at a total cost of 13,000 guilders. It is a parish church dedicated to Saint Lawrence, and it holds a painting of the saint dated 1659.

A pagan shrine stood on Kostelec hill in the 11th century and was turned into a Christian church in the 13th century. The present church was probably built during the Reformation, but the last Protestant pastor, Jakub Sandaly, destroyed all documents when he was forced to leave in 1654. After the old bell tower collapsed in a hurricane, a new church was commissioned in 1889 from Jonhisch of Těšín, funded by parishioners and donations from Emperor Franz Joseph I, Archduke Albrecht, Cardinal Kopp and Count Larisch, and consecrated on 16 August 1891.

The church holds a painting of Saint Lawrence dated 1659. Its name comes from the annual pilgrimage held on the saint's feast day, still celebrated here each year; in 1991 the parish marked the building's centenary. After the demolition of the Church of the Holy Trinity in 1962, some of that church's artefacts were moved here.

The church stands on Kostelec hill above Těrlicko, reached on foot; the annual pilgrimage is held on Saint Lawrence's feast day. Masses resumed here after the church of the Holy Trinity in the flooded valley was demolished in 1962, and the parish church of Těrlicko has been Saint Lawrence ever since.

The church holds a late-Gothic panel painting from around 1500, found during restoration of the Těrlicko Madonna and attributed to the circle of the Wrocław artist Jakob Beinhart. A 19th-century copy with the original appliqués was returned to the church.
