DOX - Centre for contemporary art, Contemporary art museum in Holešovice district, Prague, Czech Republic
DOX is a contemporary art centre in a former factory in Holešovice, Prague, opened in 2008 after conversion by architect Ivan Kroupa. It has over 3,000 m² of exhibition space, plus a café, bookshop and design shop. In 2016 a 42-metre steel-and-wood airship, Gulliver, was added for talks and views.
DOX opened in 2008 in a former factory in Holešovice, converted by architect Ivan Kroupa. The centre was founded by Leoš Válka with Robert Aafjes, Richard Fuxa and Václav Dejčmar; Jaroslav Anděl was artistic director until 2015. In 2016 the 42-metre steel-and-wood airship Gulliver by Martin Rajniš was added, and in 2018 a concrete hall with a soft, upholstered-looking facade.
The center presents exhibitions addressing current social issues, technology, and environmental concerns through various artistic approaches. International artists and local creators shape the program with their perspectives on contemporary life.
The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12:00 to 18:00 and offers reduced admission for students. The exhibitions are accessible across multiple levels of the building.
A large airship structure named Gulliver sits on the rooftop, serving as an architectural feature and additional exhibition space. This unusual element makes the building recognizable from afar and offers visitors an unexpected vantage point.
