Church of Saint Joseph, Baroque church in Slezská Ostrava, Czech Republic
The Church of Saint Joseph features a rectangular tower protruding from its facade and stands on a hill southeast of the former Polish Ostrava settlement.
Due to mining activities in 1913, the church sank by 8 meters, requiring extensive reinforcement with steel frames and concrete rings until 1928.
The main altar displays a wooden painting of the Virgin Mary with Baby Jesus, representing the church's dedication to Saint Joseph and Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
The church structure incorporates hollow bricks surrounding an iron frame, combining structural stability with traditional architectural appearance.
Engineers developed special reinforcement techniques to prevent further sinking, making this church a notable example of architectural preservation methods.
