Velké Heraltice Castle, Baroque castle in Velké Heraltice, Czech Republic
Velké Heraltice Castle is a baroque structure featuring a distinctive cylindrical tower, two courtyards, and multiple wings that form a substantial complex. The buildings sit within an expansive English-style park that surrounds the entire compound.
The original fortress was built between 1255 and 1265 under Vojslav of Lublice. During the 1670s, Count Georg Stephan von Würben transformed the structure into a baroque residence.
The chapel and interior spaces display works by sculptor Andreas Anrath, reflecting the artistic tastes of Silesian nobility from that era. These sculptural elements remain visible throughout the building and shape how visitors experience the rooms today.
The complex now houses an educational facility and social services center managed by the regional authorities as a registered cultural monument. Visitors should check access conditions beforehand, as the grounds may have restrictions.
The grounds preserve a collection of mature trees, some exceeding 150 years in age, making them living witnesses to the park's long history. The landscape descends across two distinct levels, from the castle grounds to stone walls and a creek below.
