Šibenice, Modern observation tower in Jamnice, Czech Republic
Šibenice is a modern observation tower in Jamnice that rises 13 meters above ground and is reached by concrete steps. A viewing platform situated at 9.2 meters provides an open outlook across the surrounding landscape.
The site was originally prepared for military fortifications in 1938 but construction was halted during the Munich Crisis. No surface structures were actually completed at that time.
The tower design references military bunker styles that honor regional defense structures from before World War II. These architectural choices tell visitors about the area's historical relationship with fortification and protection.
A footpath of about 200 meters connects the parking area next to the road between Jamnice and Březová to the tower. The climb up the concrete steps is manageable and takes only a few minutes.
From the platform visitors can see the Hrubý Jeseník mountains, Praděd peak, the Beskydy range, and plains extending toward Opava and Poland. This wide visibility makes it a rewarding spot for viewing the broader region.
