Vinařická věznice, Gefängnis in Tschechien
Vinařická věznice is a correctional facility near Kladno in central Bohemia that houses several hundred inmates. The grounds consist of multiple large buildings organized by custody level and housing type, with work areas, dormitories, and administrative spaces throughout the compound.
The site was initially a prisoner-of-war camp during World War II and later a forced labor camp. In 1955, the Interior Ministry decided to build a penitentiary here, which underwent major renovation in the 1970s to increase capacity and modernize facilities.
The facility is a high-security institution not open to the public. Visits are possible but require authorization and follow strict visitation rules and security screening procedures.
The prison was built on the grounds of a former prisoner-of-war camp, with some original structures integrated into the current facility. This connection to wartime history sets the grounds apart from many other penal institutions in the region.
