Jírovec stěhovavý

The Horse Chestnut in Perštýn is a large tree that stands about 16 meters tall with a substantial trunk, located near the Regional Office buildings in Liberec. Its broad canopy and sturdy form make it one of the more noticeable trees in this urban area.

The tree was protected in 1995 after the surrounding military barracks were demolished. In 2007, it was moved about 350 meters from its original location to make way for a shopping center.

The tree serves as a marker of how this district changed over decades, surviving the demolition of military buildings and later being moved to make room for new development. It represents a moment when the city chose to preserve nature alongside progress.

The tree is located in the Perštýn district and is easy to reach on foot, near administrative buildings and in an accessible urban area. You can find it by exploring the streets around the Regional Office and looking for the large chestnut tree.

The relocation in 2007 required one of the largest cranes in the Czech Republic to move the entire tree with its soil and root system intact. This complex operation shows how much effort went into preserving this particular tree.
