Krematorium Liberec

Krematorium Liberec is a cremation facility with a symmetrical layout that brings together multiple functional spaces in one structure. The grounds include gardens, covered walkways, a waiting room, a chapel, and a columbarium.

Architect Rudolf Bitzan designed this building between 1915 and 1917 following a competition held by the Vienna-based association 'Die Flamme' in 1913. Today it is protected as a cultural monument in the Czech Republic.

Two guardian statues created by sculptor Alois Rieber stand at the entrance of the waiting room, showing the craftsmanship of early 20th-century design. These sculptures remain a striking part of the building's appearance today.

This facility is located in the Persztyn district and accessible by public transport. It is advisable to seek information ahead of time as it is a place with limited visitor access.

The building combines Art Nouveau and Reform Architecture in a rare fusion of practical function with artistic design. This merger of utility and beauty is an unusual feature for this type of facility.
