Liechtenstein Palace, Baroque palace in Malá Strana, Czech Republic
Liechtenstein Palace is a baroque structure in Malá Strana with ornate interior spaces and a symmetrical layout spread across two main floors. The building sits along the Vltava riverbank and houses approximately eighteen former noble rooms alongside service areas and historic stables.
The original structure from 1555 was owned by Jiřík Velik of Šonov, granted by the Grand Prior of the Maltese Knights. The baroque redesign came later, shaped by French architectural influence and engineering.
The palace now serves as the Academy of Performing Arts, where music and theater students carry out their daily studies and hold performances.
The property sits in an active area of Prague with walkable access near the riverbank. Visitors should plan enough time to view both the exterior facade details and the interior rooms during a visit.
The building was designed by French architect Jean B. Mathey, whose European style shaped the baroque design. The western facade once featured two tall towers with onion-shaped tops that gave the structure its distinctive appearance.
