Nemošická stráň, Nature reserve in Pardubice, Czech Republic
Nemošická stráň is a nature reserve stretching for about 1 kilometer along a steep marlstone slope above the right bank of the Chrudimka River. The terrain is characterized by oak-hornbeam forest vegetation typical of such steep hillsides in this region.
The area received protected status in 1982 to preserve its distinctive marlstone terrace and forest communities. This designation followed growing environmental awareness and recognition of the ecological value of such steep slopes.
The steep slopes attract visitors interested in observing rare plant and insect species found in this habitat. For many, it serves as a place to connect with nature and appreciate the diversity of this hillside ecosystem.
Visits are possible year-round, though paths can become slippery after rain, so sturdy footwear is recommended. Marked trails guide visitors through the area, and staying on these routes protects the fragile plant communities from damage.
The site is known for its numerous ancient river channels of the Chrudimka, which are protected as significant landscape features. These channels record the river's former path and are essential for understanding how the slope formed and evolved over time.
