Pardubice, Administrative center in Eastern Bohemia, Czech Republic

Pardubice is a regional capital in Eastern Bohemia that spreads along both banks of the Elbe River and includes residential areas as well as industrial zones. The city sits on a relatively flat plain crossed by green spaces and parks, with the historic center surrounded by wider boulevards and more recent neighborhoods.

The settlement received town privileges in 1340 and developed afterward into a regional trade center in Eastern Bohemia. In the late 15th century the Pernštejn family rebuilt the medieval fortress into a Renaissance castle, which fundamentally changed the character of the place.

The large town square draws residents and visitors who stroll between historic facades and market stalls or meet in cafés along the arcades. On weekends this central spot fills with families shopping for local produce and enjoying the atmosphere of a lively Central European town.

The train station offers regular connections to Prague and other Czech cities, so travelers can easily arrive or continue from there. The historic center is walkable, while buses link different parts of town and provide access to more distant attractions.

The local racecourse has hosted a major steeplechase every year since 1874, featuring water ditches and high jumps that are known internationally. Many visitors travel in October specifically to watch this eventful horse race and feel the atmosphere around the track.
