Malý Fürstenberský palác
Malý Fürstenberský palác, Baroque palace in Malá Strana, Czech Republic
Malý Fürstenberský palác is a Baroque palace in Malá Strana created from transformed Renaissance houses that blend architectural styles from different periods. The building features multiple terraces with decorative railings leading down to a three-part ground-floor reception hall.
The palace was created in 1770 when Countess Marie Barbora Cerninová hired architect Johann Ignaz Palliardi to convert two Renaissance houses into a grand palace structure. This transformation marked a significant moment in reshaping the site.
The building shows how architecture evolved over centuries, with Renaissance foundations later expanded with Baroque and Rococo elements visible in its details. These layers tell a story of different periods when people transformed and redecorated the structure.
The palace is now part of the Senate Office complex and connects to the adjacent Kolovratský Palace through corridors on multiple levels. Visitors should know that the building currently serves administrative functions and access may be limited to certain areas.
The palace gardens hold a circular viewing pavilion from the late 1700s that is built into the terraces, offering views across Malá Strana from a quieter spot. This small structure is easy to miss but creates a peaceful place to pause and take in the surroundings.
