Müllerův dům, Baroque cultural monument in Město, Czech Republic

Müllerův dům is a one-storey baroque building on Komenského Street in Opava, near the Silesian Museum. It has a hipped roof with dormers, an external staircase and stucco window surrounds. Since 2017 it houses an underground exhibition of the Silesian Museum and a café.

A castle mill powered by water from the castle moat stood here until the 16th century, when it was rebuilt as a castle kitchen; in the first half of the 17th century it became a granary. The present house dates from a baroque reconstruction in 1726 and served as the residence of the castle administrator. After the castle was demolished, it remained the only surviving building of the original castle complex.

The name comes from the lawyer Müller, one of the owners who also lived here. Since 2015 the adjacent plot has served as a public garden planted with species typical of the Opava region, and lectures are occasionally held there. After the 2017 renovation an underground exhibition of the Silesian Museum and a café opened in the house.

Müllerův dům stands on Komenského Street near the Silesian Museum; the garden created in 2015 is open to the public and occasionally hosts lectures. The underground exhibition of the SZM and a café opened after the reconstruction finished in 2017.

Müllerův dům is the only surviving building of the original Opava castle complex, demolished after the mill, kitchen and granary stages. During the First Republic its rooms held an exhibition on the Czechoslovak legions. Since 2017 an underground exhibition of the Silesian Museum and a café occupy the house.
