Hotel Falkennest, Historic site and restaurant in Hřensko, Czech Republic
Falkennest is a building with a restaurant that stands on sandstone cliffs near the Prebischtor natural arch. It sits at about 275 meters elevation and offers views across Czech Switzerland National Park.
The building was commissioned in 1881 by Prince Edmund Clary-Aldringen and constructed by Italian craftsmen. It was one of Europe's first destinations intentionally created to serve tourists.
The restaurant serves traditional Czech dishes in a half-timbered building that reflects regional architectural styles of northern Bohemia. Visitors gather here to eat and enjoy views after hiking through the surrounding landscape.
The location sits directly at the entrance of the national park and makes a good stop after hiking in the area. The building is easily accessible on foot and offers both indoor and outdoor seating.
The building was intentionally designed as an early tourism destination long before mass tourism became common. This pioneering role makes it a rare example of planned tourism development in the late 1800s.
