Teletínský lom, Natural monument quarry in Teletin, Czech Republic
Teletínský lom is an abandoned quarry site near Teletín with steep stone walls exposing bands of granite and mixed rock types. The excavated walls display the geological layers and mineral formations characteristic of this region.
The quarry began active extraction around 1934 and supplied quality granite blocks for hydraulic structures and bridges in the region. Stone blocks were transported by cable car to the Stechovice dam construction site.
The site represents a geological junction between the Central Bohemian Pluton and Jilove Belt, containing minerals such as pyrite, chalcopyrite, and fluorite.
The quarry is open to visitors without restrictions and offers clear views of the exposed stone layers from multiple angles. A visit works well combined with hiking along nearby Vltava River falls and forest trails in the surrounding area.
At the boundary between two rock units lies a zone of magmatic breccia where biotite granite meets amphibolite-biotite granodiorite, creating a rare geological contact visible in the quarry walls. This exposed junction is what draws geologists and rock enthusiasts to study the site.
