Trmal's Villa

Trmal's Villa is a two-story modernist residence in Strašnice featuring dormer windows, tall chimneys, and half-timbered gables. The garden includes curved pathways and ornamental plantings at the intersection of Vilová street.

Architect Jan Kotěra designed this house in 1902 for František Trmal, director of a public business school. The design blends English and Czech architectural influences.

The villa now serves as an exhibition space showing the work and home life of architect Jan Kotěra from the early 20th century. Visitors can see how a modernist designer of that era lived and organized his living spaces.

Visitors can walk through independently on Tuesday through Friday afternoons, or arrange guided visits at other times by appointment. It helps to check conditions beforehand, since visiting options vary depending on when you plan to come.

The staircase inside features handcrafted geometric Art Nouveau decorations with floral patterns. This artisanal detail is something visitors often overlook when touring the spaces.
