Staré Zámky

Staré Zámky is an archaeological site on elevated ground near Brno-Líšeň with visible ditches and earth ramparts from the Iron Age. The remains show the typical layout of a fortified settlement from that period, taking advantage of the natural hill position.

The site was inhabited during the Iron Age and served as a center for the regional population. Excavations show that settlement continued across many generations, underlining its importance in prehistoric Central Europe.

The site reveals connections between distant prehistoric communities through objects found here that came from various regions. These discoveries suggest that groups from afar gathered and exchanged goods at this location.

The site is accessible via marked trails and best explored in dry conditions. Wear sturdy shoes as the ground is uneven and the elevated location requires some physical effort.

Researchers mapped underground structures using modern scanning techniques without disturbing the archaeological remains. This approach revealed the site's hidden history while keeping it intact for future study.
